Who is the
CyberIrishman ?
Andrew has had a storied career in Satellite broadcasting and News Gathering, Project management, Data center design and operations management, has lived in Ireland, Greece, Scotland, Germany the United States, travels extensively to over 30 countries and now teaches Cybersecurity and AI
Andrew’s High tech career took off as a Satellite Broadcast Engineer working for a AntennaTV USA joint venture in based Athens Greece. He helped build a satellite earth station in Kafissia, near Athens Greece and then trained the local staff and enjoyed a year of eating lamb and drinking greek coffee and retsina. The earth station received signals from the European and Indian beam satellite and retransmitted programming back to the USA for subscription and pay-per-view programming. Here Andrew carried out the world’s first Digitally compressed broadcast TV transmissions using CLI Labs infrastructure, the original Digital video broadcast compression device. If you were watching news programming from Europe, Gaelic football from Ireland or Cricket from the Indian subcontinent, in the USA in the Early 1990’s chances are it came through Andrew.
Andrew then moved to Monchengladbach Germany where he worked for SIS Satellite Information Systems to broadcast horse racing from the racetracks all around Germany.
From there he moved tot Edinburgh Scotland and for 12 years ran the Scottish Mobile satellite new gathering operation for Sky news and ITN news covering news stories in mostly Scotland, England, Ireland, and the Hague as well as all around Europe. During these years he covered stories such as Nelson Mandella receiving the keys to London, Madonna’s Wedding (some great stories there), Dolly the Sheep, The Glasgow Airport bombing attack, Many Celtic vs Rangers football games and a lot of time in Belfast covering the Northern Ireland peace process. He also spent several months in Italy during the Yugoslavian War and in Qatar during the Second Gulf War at Central Command.
In 2008 and Moved to the USA to Work for Echostar/Dish Network in Cheyenne Wyoming at the main Broadcast center for Dish network. He started off there as a technical program manager working on such projects as building a Satellite Station in Hong Kong, A targeted commercial Insertion project and then building a Datacenter in Cheyenne to house Dish Network’s IPVOD product. Andrew then became the operations manager for this service and ran the 24/7 NOC to monitor and manage the workflow, servers, and 6PB of storage used to provide Streaming movies to Dish customers’ set top and Sling boxes all over the USA.
In 2000 Andrew Moved to SecureNinja to become the Lead Instructor creating course and quiz Engine content as well as teaching thousands of students. He also became the face of SecureNinjaTV, a YouTube channel with 25,000 subscribers over traveling to CyberSecurity Conferences all over the world interviewing thought leaders and demonstrating new tech to secure ninjas students and the YouTube community for 5 years.
